City Architecture Office
City Architecture Office is an award-winning practice, described as one of the best in Scotland, by Building Design magazine. Our studio in Edinburgh covers a diverse portfolio of work ranging from domestic, housing, commercial, education, culture & community, to transport, masterplanning & regeneration.

The practice has a reputation for thoughtful design work, driven by a commitment to create clear, simple and elegant architecture. Our design approach adds value well beyond the cost of professional fees and City Architecture Office (CiAO) delivers successful projects that aim to enhance the quality of our lives; whether at home, at work, or the public places in between.

The studio is organised to deliver high quality work, our resources are project focused and we are familiar with handling varying budgets to create innovative solutions. Clients include Whiteburn Projects, Kingdom Housing Association, The Vittoria Group, Stanhope, London Underground, Northill, Out of the Blue Arts & Education Trust, Comar Arts, Parsons Brinckerhoff and many private individuals.
Services
This new-build development is on a former industrial brownfield site in East London. The design for a light-filled building containing 9 apartments and 2 ground-floor office units exceeded the expectations of the client's brief and CiAO quickly gained planning approval.
City Architecture Office was appointed to lead the station design of a major enhancement to the Bakerloo tickethall at Paddington Station. The proposal forms part of a larger Royal Mail Group development of the 1 London Street site led by Michael Aukett Associates. Consulting with stakeholders, London Underground, Network Rail and Crossrail; City Architecture Office established an outline design for the ticket hall.
A new community hub to serve the residents with a range of services aimed at improving health & wellbeing. Fullarton is an area of high deprivation with a population of around 3,000. It has been identified by North Ayrshire Council as a priority for support, and we worked closely with local groups and a range of partners to achieve a high quality building as part of a 5 year Community Action Plan.
A quiet, contemplative haven for primary school children to relax and reflect in beyond the traditional school walls. It promotes a subtle message - aiming to promote environmental awareness and positive memories at an impressionable stage in a child's life. To meet these criteria a simple periscope was designed to sit within a louvered 'top hat' clerestorey that previously ventilated the toilet block.
Establishing a new development framework in an area of east London, the project quickly gained planning permission. By working closely with the Tower Hamlet planning team we helped determine a new datum in mass & amenity for a rapidly changing area. The apartments follow GLA housing design guidelines and achieve a 50% carbon reduction.
