The practice has taken a remote-office approach since 2020 to allow for broader area coverage, with a base in Gloucestershire covering Stroud, Bristol and the surrounding area, while retaining existing connections in northeast London, although projects are undertaken throughout the UK.
The practice has experienced architectural technologist resources to call on for larger or more complex projects, including the ability to undertake measured building surveys locally to both these areas and covers many design approaches from traditional architectural design and building procurement to interior design.
Our design ethos is to approach all projects from a conceptually creative and client-driven viewpoint, with an emphasis on design quality, user benefit and sustainability principles.New work is strongly contemporary in nature, but with a conservation portfolio within the practice tempered by an understanding of and sensitivity to historical context and a focus on carefully applied material richness.

A large-scale and long running change of use project involving a former malt-roasting house in a conservation area which had fallen into dereliction and the client is now converting to a family home. This project involved taking a previous outline planning consent through a revised planning scheme to improve the design, adding a mezzanine bedroom level, freeing up basement space for a games room and utility spaces.
SS4 Architects were recently afforded the chance to work on a number of properties in a single terraced street over the course of two years, all following a very similar late Victorian footprint and internal layout, but with variations in terms of alteration previously undertaken by previous owners, varying briefs and budgets from their own specific clients.
