I am required to certify all works carried out and issue a statement for each chimney/appliance swept and inspected. From smaller diameter flues, solid fuel stoves and other lined chimneys use a flexible coiled fibreglass rod specifically designed for cleaning narrower flues and liners. Anyone can set themselves up as a chimney sweep.
If you choose an unregistered sweep, you are unlikely to be able to claim on your insurance for any damage caused by a chimney fire. A smoke test should be carried out by a qualified person using the following procedure which is based on the test described in the European Standard BSEN 15287-1 for open fires and BSEN 15287-2 for room sealed appliances.

Had a chimney that needed cleaning and not knowing a local sweep was a little nervous about just picking a name off the net. I needn't have worried as very impressed with the efficiency and service provided by Paul. Great guy who did a great job and would highly recommend. And not a spot of soot left behind. Oh and very good value.
